Kevin Fontana is her fourth spouse; according to a 2012 article, they had been married for 31 years, but other sources claim she married Redd in 1981. Brittany Rose, her daughter, is her second child. She and her children currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia.

She was born and raised in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, as one of five children. Her paternal grandparents were from the Grenadine Islands' Carriacou.
