He was born in Tampa, Florida, on December 7, 1980, to corporate takeover expert Paul Bilzerian, his father, and Terri Steffen, his mother. He is Adam Bilzerian's brother, who is also a poker player. Through his father, he is of half-Armenian ancestry. His father was a Wall Street business raider who set up trust funds for each of his boys.
In 1999, he enlisted in the Navy. After completing two grueling weeks of SEAL training in 2000, he was booted out of the program a few weeks before graduation due to a disagreement with one of his administrators.
