Rashad’s first marriage was with William Lancelot Bowles Jr., a dentist, that took place in 1972. William Lancelot Bowles III, their sole son, was born the following year. In 1975, the divorce was finalized.

On December 14, 1985, she married Ahmad Rashad, a former NFL wide receiver and sportscaster. This was her third marriage where she inherited her last name from. The couple divorced in 2001 before giving birth to their daughter, Condola Phylea Rashad who was born on December 11, 1986.

She has three siblings: Tex (Andrew Arthur Allen, Jr.) who is a jazz artist; actress, choreographer, and director Debbie Allen; and brother Hugh Allen who works as a real estate banker in North Carolina.
